Our prompt this week is Imitation. We have heard that imitation is a sincere form of flattery, and it can also be a sincere way to explore your own poetic voice through other poems that you like.
Pick one of your favorite poems and read it over and over. Memorize it and recite it out loud if that helps you integrate the flow and feel of the poem. Notice what you like about it: the form, the cadence, use of certain words, or use of certain devices (like alliteration).
Now write your own poem and imitate the elements that you most liked about the favorite you chose. Instead of an imitation that’s “close but not the real thing”, let the poem influence something that integrates your favorite elements into something uniquely you. Feel free to post the title and author of the poem you chose along with your link so we can see your inspiration.
As always, please share your poem in the comments and I will be happy to read it and share my thoughts.
P.S. this one has a bit of homework so feel free to come back to this thread and post your result anytime, even if other prompts have been posted. In fact, I feel that way about all my prompts 🙂

This poem was inspired by somebody else’s.
