This poem was inspired by this dVerse prompt but ended up not being very metaphorical.
This being human
is when I realized how hopeless I was in love,
staring at my girlfriend’s car parked next to another.
All the facts I knew, twisted into lies I told myself,
and now believed.
This being human
is when I knew I would only regret silence,
when I felt everything that needed to be said,
and spoke only goodbye.
This being human
is trying desperately to be brave
and overcome the fears that are uniquely ours,
these fears of being too human for others to accept.

I like this and am glad that you responded to the prompt. It may not be metaphorical, but it’s personal and relatable.

I found the dVerse site through your posts so thanks for that. It looks like a good one to follow. As I read the contributions of others, this poem just jumped to mind so I posted it.

Most of us can relate to a broken heart–it is definitely part of being human.

Too true. This long lost memory crept up as inspiration so I went with it.
